Deactivating iMessage

If you're not receiving inbound SMS messages on a mobile number you've ported in, which was previously used on an iPhone, iMessage may be the cause.

When iMessage is enabled on a device, any messages sent from other iPhones are delivered by iMessage, rather than the carrier's SMS messaging platform. To ensure messages are delivered using the carrier's SMS infrastructure, it is necessary to deactivate iMessage on the iPhone that the number was previously associated with.

If You Still Have Your iPhone

Follow the steps below to turn off iMessage.

  • Transfer your SIM card to your iPhone.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Messages.
  • Turn iMessage off. Go back to Settings.
  • Tap FaceTime.
  • Turn FaceTime off. Exit Settings.

If You No Longer Have Your iPhone

Deactivation of iMessage if you no longer have the iPhone is done via Apple's support centre.

To do so, click the button below, then set your country to Australia and enter the mobile number in the format 04XXXXXXXX and click Send Code. For example;

Once the code has been delivered to your MaxoTel SMS inbox, enter it in the Confirmation Code field and click Submit.
