Connecting to Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams integration enables you to make and receive calls directly from the Microsoft Teams app on your computer, mobile or tablet.

Before you can start making calls from Teams, you'll first need to complete the Teams Integration initial setup and link your Teams users, both of which are detailed below.

Performing Initial Setup

An Office 365 global administrator account for the Microsoft tenant you're connecting is recommended to complete this setup.

At this stage, connecting tenants through Microsoft's Delegated Administration program is not available.

Ensure you have an available (not assigned to a user) Microsoft 365 user license (eg. E1, Business Premium) and a Teams Phone Standard license available before beginning setup. These will be temporarily consumed during the setup and will be released for normal use (including assigning to another user or cancellation) once setup is complete.

Refer to the Licensing table in Microsoft Teams Integration Licensing Requirements for information on the available Office 365 licensing options. You can check if your licenses are available under Billing > Licenses in the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre

To begin the setup process, login to https://my.maxo.com.au/ and navigate to the following:

Hybrid PBX: Hosted PBX > Apps and Integrations, then Microsoft Teams

Direct Routing (SIP Trunking): Other Services > Apps and Integrations, then Microsoft Teams

Click Connect to Teams to begin the process.

When prompted, login with your Microsoft 365 global administrator, then review and consent to the requested access, ensuring you check Grant on Behalf of Organisation.

This access is:

Additional information for IT professionals

The Teams Integration performs the following actions:

Setup

  1. Add the custom domain to the tenant (required for call authentication)
  2. Give the Teams Integration Azure app the Teams Administrator role
  3. Perform DNS verification of the custom domain
  4. Create a user (zz_ConnectorSetup) to enable the domain for use with Teams and assign an appropriate license combination from those already available in the tenant. Note: We will not order any additional licensing.
  5. Configure Teams voice route parameters
  6. Remove the setup user (also freeing up the assigned licenses)

Ongoing

  1. Retrieve a list of all users with appropriate M365 Teams Phone Standard licensing, including resource accounts (as appropriate) for use in https://my.maxo.com.au/
  2. Reconfigure Teams user settings (including phone number and applied voice routes) based on selections, including assigning or removing a Teams user from an extension or DID in https://my.maxo.com.au/

Disconnection

  1. Remove applied phone number and voice routes from any Teams user linked to MaxoTel
  2. Remove Teams voice route parameters
  3. Remove custom integration domain
  4. De-authorise the Teams Integration app

Required Administrator Permissions

If you do not wish to use a Global Administrator account to connect, please ensure that the account you use has the following administrator permissions or setup will fail:

  1. Application Administrator
  2. Domain Name Administrator
  3. Privileged Role Administrator
  4. User Administrator

Once authorised, the Teams Integration will check your Office 365 tenant and, if no issues are identified, will begin setting up the link between Microsoft Teams and MaxoTel.

For Direct Routing configurations, select which SIP Trunk will be used on Step 3 by clicking the Select SIP Trunk button, and selecting from your available SIP trunks. Note that, while connected to Teams, the selected SIP trunk can't be used for any other purpose.

You can follow the setup progress on the Teams Integration page at any time. Once it has completed, you will also receive an email to let you know setup has completed.

Teams Integration setup normally takes a couple of minutes, however may take up to 24 hours to complete depending on Microsoft 365 or Teams infrastructure.

Linking Your Microsoft 365 Users

Now that setup is complete, you'll need to link an extension or phone number to your Teams users before they can make calls.

Re-Authenticating with Microsoft Teams

Should you need to reconnect to Teams for any reason, you can do so by logging in to https://my.maxo.com.au/ and navigating to the following:

Hybrid PBX: Hosted PBX > Apps and Integrations, then Microsoft Teams

Direct Routing (SIP Trunking): Other Services > Apps and Integrations, then Microsoft Teams

To reconnect to Teams, click Disconnect & Reconnect to Teams, then re-enter your Microsoft Global Administrator account when prompted.

Disconnecting from Microsoft Teams

Should you need to disconnect the Microsoft Teams Integration, you can do so by logging in to https://my.maxo.com.au/ and navigating to the following:

Hybrid PBX: Hosted PBX > Apps and Integrations, then Microsoft Teams

Direct Routing (SIP Trunking): Other Services > Apps and Integrations, then Microsoft Teams

To begin the disconnection process, click Disconnect from Teams, then confirm.

The disconnection process may take some time to complete. If you're switching between Hybrid PBX and Direct Routing, you will be unable to proceed with the setup of the alternate connection until disconnection has completed.
